Achieving Better Health No.1

It feels like every time I read a newspaper or magazine or watch TV/listen to the radio there is some new report outlining how unhealthy/obese/unfit we have all become. Conflicting reports about what is and isn’t good for us make it difficult to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Marketing and advertising add to this confusing minefield, products are promoted as being a healthy choice for reason X but no mention is made of problem Y that completely negates the health benefits. Well known examples of this include cereal bars (and many cereals) which are purported to be fill of fible and wholegrains etc but can also be laden with sugar. I’ve lost count of how many times I have thought I was making good food choices only to later realise my meals were not nearly as healthy as I had believed.

So who do you believe? Where can you get sound nutritional advice? I really don’t know. Theories espoused by nutritionists are discredited so often it’s hard to keep up.

In the next few weeks I’ll be setting myself goals for 2014 and one of the most important will be to improve my fitness and look after my nutritional health, with an emphasis on eating REAL food!
